About Tompkins Dental in Ithaca

Located at 2309 N Triphammer Rd, Ithaca, NY 14850, Tompkins Dental in Ithaca operates as a dentist serving Ithaca in New York. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it.

Dental care in the United States is delivered mostly by private practices: a general or family dentist who handles exams, cleanings, fillings and crowns, and refers out anything that needs a specialist. Group practices and dental clinics put several dentists, hygienists and sometimes specialists under one roof, often with evening and Saturday hours. Most offices ask new patients for a comprehensive exam with X-rays before routine cleanings, which the American Dental Association recommends every six months. Prices are set by each practice, and most accept dental insurance (PPO plans more widely than HMO ones), CareCredit-style financing or an in-house membership plan for people without coverage. Emergency dental services take same-day patients for toothaches, broken teeth and abscesses, usually at a premium.

Hours are published for 5 days a week. Typical hours are 8 am–5 pm. Note that it does not open on Saturday, Sunday. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (607) 257-8065. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. Its website is tompkinsdental.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

Its Google rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 538 reviews, a solid but mixed picture; reading the most recent reviews will tell you what to expect.

Ithaca is in New York, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Ithaca follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

What a truly awful experience. I’ve never had a bad experience at a dentist, but this one absolutely blows. It is extremely clear they are trying to fill quotas rather than do quality work. I had by far the worst cleaning I’ve ever had in my life - bleeding more than I ever have for days after the appointment. Then the fillings - they took no time to explain anything before they did it, suddenly there was just a needle in my mouth. I could live with sparse communication if the work is quality, but my bite is still not the same as it was. I am going to another dentist to try and make sure that they didn’t screw anything major up and to try and get my bite back to normal. I know there are not many options in town, but please don’t get any major work done here and prepare yourself for pain if you get a cleaning.

One of the worst dental offices that I have been to. Every time I had anything done - I had suffered mouth sores for next two weeks. They have little patience to finish their fillings correctly, use very invasive methods without sufficient protection (cheek shield anyone?), and often don’t wait long enough for the anesthesia to start working or top it up so you really don’t feel anything. The dental hygienists are ok, but the dentists themselves are having no time to spend with patients, do not give you the time of day to ask questions or even tell you what they are doing and why. The administrators are NOT approachable, the (re)scheduling of appointments is impossible and their digital online booking system is not working.

I was so excited to finally find a dentist thst took my insurance. As a single mom of 19 years, I unfortunately put myself last for many things and dental care was one. My initial appointment was good. Everyone was friendly. The lady who spoke with me explained thst I have bone loss. I had a loose front tooth. The plan was to pull my 2 front teeth and have a denture made. She verified thst it would be coveredby my insurance.. As my next appointment approached, I unfortunately lost the loose front tooth. Needless to say, I was looking forward to my next appointment to get this process started. I work with the public and losing a front tooth is not fun. I show up to my appointment, which by the way was confirmed through texts as well as a live phone call. So I get in the chair and a man comes in amd tells me that they will not be doing my denture because my insurance won't cover enough of the cost. How devastating! Someone should have called to tell me this before my appointment. I also wonder what my insurance would think of this neglect. It was almost as if he just decided on the spot tgst they dont want to do it. I had a cracked tooth removed that day that they cut into mu g

Had my first visit today for an X-ray and cleaning, and it was a great experience! I was lucky to get a same-day appointment. The staff was excellent, and hygienist Karen did an amazing job with great effort and care. Everything went smoothly and efficiently, and the price was fair. I’ll definitely continue visiting.
